" most men weight 15 stone, 16 stone, something like that....".....!!!??? Speak for yourself fatboy....!! Great chat, but fuk sake, I'm 6ft, my fighting weight when I was training like a serial killer was 14 stone tops...now I'm starving to death and maybe 10 stone. Sadly Cordwainers college split in two, fashion and saddlery, and lost all of its teaching. I took the 2 year saddlery course, but the 3 year shoe making was gone by then. Such a loss.

I was just at G&G last month to have my feet measured for a pair of loafers. Wonderful experience. Unfortunately, due to a last minute flight cancellation I was unable to make my original appointment and missed Tony, but thankfully G&G were very understanding and flexible and were able to do the measurements later in the day. I look forward to meeting Tony at one of the US Trunk Shows this fall. The shop is very warm and inviting with a wide selection of incredible shoes. The two employees I did meet, Michael, who did the measurements, and another young man who's name I can't recall but had the most incredible bespoke Navy blazer, were both very friendly and engaging. I was like a kid in a candy store. I will follow up the loafers with a pair of Oxfords, so I'll be dealing with G&G for quite some time. I'm really enjoying this series. Tom is a an excellent presenter. It's almost like he's following me around to all my favorite shops in London. I expect a visit to Budd, Fortnum & Mason and Henry Poole in the near future, lol. The videos are well done but just rough enough around the edges that they don't give the impression of an infomercial but instead are a genuine effort to display the best that Mayfair has to offer. I hope Tom expands into restaurants and hotels, as I'm always open to suggestions.

Thank you, Tom, for slowing the answers from the two G&G partners in order to dig deeper on technical aspects. Sometimes shorthand terminology loses ignoramuses like me, so one much appreciated the unravelling of a seemingly simple subject as shoe making. I shall never again look at shoes in the same light ~ Nick.

Although a regular customer of G & G (I’ve visited the factory too) I wasn’t aware of the meaning of some of those shoemaking terms until this excellent video. One constructive point - it would be helpful if the camera could zoom in on details when discussed. It was, for example, not easy to see the way the welt fits to the inner sole as the camera shot was effectively fixed in place the whole time.

Such delight I took from this engaging interaction by not only the finest shoemakers in the world but with the superb shoeshine at the end of the video. Whilst sitting back with my Cohiba I was intrigued on all aspects of this video. Mr Chamberlin can anybody pop in to see the shoeshine gent or is this only for Gaziano Girling? Could this be made clear.

I know that I say this every time, but it was another excellent, and very informative video. Brilliant interview with G&G. A bonus was the shoe shine, and seeing that the wax that I use, Saphir was mentioned, I also use their shoe cream. I had a chuckle when I saw that the shoe shine chap had tramlines in his trousers. I had my usual glass or 2 of 10 year old tawny whilst I was watching. Laughed at the Tom 'One Take' Chamberlin bit, although I did miss the out takes. I'm guessing that Tom's suit was the Brioni one featured in the latest issue of The Rake?

A big part of the allure of Savile Row is the heritage and history, though it is always nice to see someone back themselves because they have the conviction that they can bring something new and contribute value. There have been some long term fixtures on the Row that have had to pack up and it’s always a pity but at the same time, you root for the newbies. Bold move from these 2 to go on the Row and not on Jermyn Street. Their shoes are exceptional, I hope they succeed.

Fantastic, the correct term for the rasp that is used on 'good stuff' is "hand stitched rasp".. not "hand pricked". Fantastic video .... oh!, the wax used on the cord used on welting and attaching soles is "hand wax" or "coad" .... it's a blend of bee's wax, tallow and pine rosin.
